(photo: Allen Epstein) Traveling through a Maspeth intersection proved dangerous for the occupants of a car who were injured after their ride slammed into an Access-a-Ride bus last Friday evening, June 27, it was reported.

Fire Department sources said the crash occurred at around 9:15 p.m. Friday night at the intersection of Rust Street and Maspeth Avenue.

Reportedly, a sedan carrying four individuals was traveling westbound on Maspeth Avenue when it collided with the Access-a-Ride bus. FDNY sources said no passengers were aboard the transport vehicle at the time of the accident.

Members of Engine Company 291, Ladder Company 140, Squad Company 288, Rescue 4, Battalion 28 and the 104th Precinct responded to the scene along with numerous EMS units.

Upon their arrival, it was reported, the first responders discovered one of the sedan's passengers had been ejected from the vehicle through the window.

Three others, including one critically injured passenger, were reportedly trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Fire Department sources said firefighters were able to free the victims by using the Hurst tool, commonly known as the "jaws of life."

All four victims, along with the bus driver, were transported by paramedics to local hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, an FDNY spokesperson said.

The investigation is ongoing, it was reported.
