Bodega Blaze Goes To Ridgewood Apts.
     Smoke billows from a grocery store at the corner of Gates and Cypress avenues in Ridgewood during a fire that broke out on Monday, Aug. 11. Fire Department sources said the one-alarm blaze started inside the shop at around 2:50 p.m. and spread to apartments on the second- and third-floors of the structure. Members of Engine companies 218, 271, 277 and 291; Ladder companies 112, 124, 135 and 140; Squad Company 252; Rescue 4; and Battalions 28 and 37 responded to the scene under the direction of Division 14. Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units also arrived at the location. No injuries were reported. Say Driver Fled After Car Flipped
     The operator of this sedan that struck a light pole and overturned along Woodhaven Boulevard in Glendale early on Sunday morning, Aug. 10 managed to flee from the scene, Fire Department sources said. Reportedly, the crash occurred at around 3:05 a.m. along the boulevard's northbound lanes near Myrtle Avenue. Members of Engine Company 294, Ladder Company 143, the 104th Precinct, the NYPD Emergency Services Unit and the Glendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene. Sports Car Slams Into Garage, Lands In Yard
     Trying to park her car inside a Middle Village garage proved dangerous for a woman who was injured after the vehicle lost control and crashed through the structure on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 10, it was reported. Fire Department sources said the incident occurred at around 4:35 p.m. at a residence on Eliot Avenue near 65th Street. As the victim attempted to move her red Ford Mustang inside the garage, it was reported, the accelerator became stuck, causing the car to plunge through the rear wall, over an adjacent garage and into a neighboring backyard. Members of Engine Company 291, Ladder Company 140, Rescue 4, the 104th Precinct, the NYPD Emergency Services Unit and EMS units responded to the scene. Motorists Injured In Williamsburg Crash
     Four people were hospitalized with serious injuries after the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a lamppost and a building in Williamsburg early on Sunday morning, Aug. 10, it was reported. According to FDNY sources, the sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed as it exited the Williamsburg Bridge when it slammed into a street lamp at the intersection of Broadway and Havemeyer Street at around 6:40 a.m. Sunday. Following the initial impact, Fire Department sources said, the vehicle mounted the sidewalk and hit a nearby structure. On the scene were members of Engine companies 216 and 221; Ladder Company 140; Battalion 35; the 90th Precinct; the NYPD Emergency Services Unit and EMS units.      Five people were injured after three cars collided at the intersection of 60th Street and 59th Drive in Maspeth at around 10:20 a.m. last Wednesday morning, Aug. 6, it was reported.      Two residents suffered minor injuries after a one-alarm fire broke out inside a twofamily home on Gates Avenue between Fresh Pond Road and 64th Street in Ridgewood late on Monday night, Aug. 11, it was reported. On Board At Bank
     Ridgewood Savings Bank has appointed Frank O'Hagan as vice president and investment officer. Previously, he was vice president, investment officer, business development officer and loan review officer at Pamrapo Savings Bank, a Bayonne, N.J.- based community bank. At Ridgewood Savings Bank, O'Hagan is responsible for the bank's investment portfolio of more than $800 million in mortgage-backed, agency and corporate securities. The bank also announced the retirement of James Korona, senior vice president and chief investment officer, after 11 years of service.

Bulldogs Charge Into Action
     Bulldogs Charge Into Action After a successful spring season, the Greenpoint Bulldogs 12U Travel team, sponsored by the Greenpoint Little League, ventured down to Cherry Hill, N.J. for an ECTB-sanctioned tournament. The Bulldogs took two of the first three games, advancing to the semifinals on Sunday, only to lose a tough decision. This year's Bulldogs are led by players Mike Deck, Robert Moncino, Shane Herrity, Dylan Lawrence, Lucas Burton, Frank Smith, Mike Rossi, Brian Hughes, Danny Campanoni, Jayson Schneller, Yoboni Artilles and William Kazmierczuk; and coached by Russ Deck, Keith Moncino, Jim Herrity and Donald Lawrence. The team is currently in third place in the NCYAA summer league. In October, the Bulldogs will be travelling down to Aberdeen, Md. in quest of a Cal Ripken championship.

     Mario's Takes The Title Mario's, coached by Rocco Esposito, won their second Coaches' Softball League championship game on Sunday, Aug. 10 at Charles Park in Howard Beach. This season's win was due to the outstanding sportsmanship of a great team. This team was led by pitchers Louie Beniquez Sr. amd Eddie Brown Jr., followed by Tito Rivera, Robert Raz, Jeff Smith, Shawn Clark, Steven Koch, Louie Beniquez Jr., Chris Koch, Angel Vargas, Tito Reyes, Charlie Arena, Henry Figueroa, Tito Rvera Jr. and Michael Marquez. The team went 6-0 to win the championship, in honor of Ed Brown Sr.
