Ready To Do Their Bidding Members of the Centennial Committee of St. Matthias teamed in holding an art auction last Sunday, Nov. 9 as part of the continuing series of events to celebrate the Ridgewood parish's 100th anniversary. Voters turned out last Tuesday, Nov. 4 to elect Democratic candidates. Locally, Assemblywoman Margaret Markey (at right) scored a victory over her Republican challenger, Anthony Nunziato. It was reported that Markey garnered 68 percent of the votes cast in the election for her 30th Assembly District seat. St. John's Preparatory School in Astoria held an Open House and students in the Italian Club were among those on hand to welcome future high school students and their families. Hundreds of seventh and eighth graders attended the Oct. 19 event, which included tours of the building and grounds, as well as the opportunity to speak with SJP students, faculty and administrators.
