OLH Fifth Graders Are Tops

OLH Fifth Graders Are Tops The Our Lady of Hope fifth grade boys' and girls' soccer teams took home CYO Championship trophies. The boys (top photo) earned their third CYO Championship in a row with a 5-1 victory over St. Francis. Led by captain Conor McGlynn, the boys raced out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Lenny Lynaugh, Vincent Dionisi and McGlynn. The second half was much the same as the first with defensive work by Chris Mahon, Jake Mella, Matthew Zwolak and Connor Herrera allowing Hope's midfield of McGlynn, Lynaugh, Thomas Conan and Thomas Moore to control the game. Two more goals by McGlynn and Frankie Cerillo ended the game. St. Francis did get a late goal despite a good effort from Hope keeper Marcus Barbu. Hope also got valuable contributions from Mike Calderon and Stefan Letennier. Meanwhile, the girls' team (bottom photo) won their first title on Sunday, Nov. 16, at O'Connor Park. The team, coached and trained by James McGee, Dmytro Fedkowskyj and Steve Ferro, won three straight games, finishing off their run with a 1-0 victory over St. Luke's, with Kristen Hoyt scoring midway through the second half off a Stephanie Biscaglia corner kick. Francesca Oddo, Elena DiBona, Sophia Hyland, Erica Posio, Francesca Fedkowskyj, Dana Velazquez, Leah Sheridan, Stephanie Ferro, Caitlin Gaine, Roisin Haran, Jade Rentas, Kaitlyn McGee, Nicole Scaparro and Mikayla Roberts also contributed to the win.
