Five-Alarm Blaze Scorches Factory
     Ten firefighters and five workers at an Astoria cabinet factory were hospitalized after being injured during a five-alarm fire at the location last Saturday, Nov. 22, it was reported. According to FDNY sources, the inferno started at around 11:20 a.m. at the factory located on 37th Avenue near 31st Street. Reportedly, the flames broke out inside the first floor and then spread to other levels. More than 55 FDNY units were called to the scene along with the 114th Precinct and EMS units. The injured firefighters and victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Welcoming New Members To Their Table
     While breaking bread together during their annual Thanksgiving luncheon, members of the Kiwanis Club of Glendale installed a new member and recognized the former governor of the state chapter last Thursday, Nov. 20 at Zum Stammtisch restaurant. As shown, Walter Sabolboro (at right) was officially inducted into the club while Past Governor Joe Corace (at center) was made an honorary member of the Glendale group. Each received various tokens of membership including the club's official pin and mug. Stores Wiped Out By Bklyn. Blaze
     Flames that broke out inside a Bushwick supermarket reportedly spread to a neighboring furniture store during a two-alarm blaze last Tuesday night, Nov. 18, Fire Department sources said. Reportedly, the fire started at around 7:50 p.m. in the vicinity of Broadway and Granite Street. On the scene were members of Engine companies 207, 214, 222, 227, 231, 233, 252, 227 and 332; Ladder companies 111, 112, 120, 124, 175 and 176; Rescue 2; Squad Company 1; Satellite 6 and Battalions 28, 37, 38, 44 and 57, under the direction of Division 11. Officers from the 83rd Precinct and EMS units also arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported, and the blaze was brought under control at around 8:35 p.m., a Fire Department spokesperson said. Home Is Damaged In Woodside Blaze
     Nobody was injured after flames broke out the first floor of a home on 54th Street in Woodside during a one-alarm fire last Wednesday, Nov. 19, it was reported. Fire Department sources said the blaze occurred at around 1:50 p.m. at the residence, located between 39th and Woodside avenues. Members of Engine companies 259, 260, 262, 292, 307 and 325; Ladder companies 116, 117, 154 and 163; Rescue 4; Squad Company 288 and Battalions 45 and 49, under the direction of Division 14, responded to the scene with the 108th Precinct and EMS. A Renaissance In Ridgewood
     Con Edison's Renaissance Housing Program celebrated the completion of another housing project with a ribbon cutting on the front steps of the building at 1865 Linden St. in Ridgewood last Tuesday, Nov. 18. Thanks to a rehabilitation by the contractor, Hudson Maintenance Corporation, what had been a long-vacant tenement was turned into spacious two and three-bedroom condominiums, said Paul Kerzner, who heads the Renaissance Housing Program. The First National Bank of Long Island will be providing the condo mortgages and the Greater Ridgewood Restoration Corporation was the non-profit sponsor. As noted, the project marks Ridgewood's first "green" building renovation, with the latest energy-saving materials and equipment. Among those on hand to join with Con Edison officials such as Tom Newell, vice president for Brooklyn/Queens electric operations, and Carol Conslato, director of Queens public affairs, were City Council Member Diana Reyna, City Council Member-elect Elizabeth Crowley, Community Board 5 District Manager Gary Giordano and GRRC Executive Director Angela Mirabile. MetroCard Sales Buses, Vans Roll Into Area Neighborhoods
Seniors, Disabled Can Get Reduced Fares
      MetroCard busses and vans will make scheduled stops in Queens during the month of December, MTA New York City Transit has announced. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may apply for the Reduced Fare MetroCard on these buses or may obtain an application from the vans. Seniors must present photo identification proving that they are at least 65 years old.
