Locals Light The Way At Sunnyside Playground
     The Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce held its Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Monday, Dec. 1, at Joe Sabba Park, 50th Street and Queens Boulevard. Chamber President John Vogt and Santa Claus welcomed all who attended. Among those on hand were Msgr. Denis Herron, pastor of St. Teresa's Church in Woodside, who offered an opening prayer, and Dr. Gail Mellow, president of LaGuardia Community College, who performed the lighting. As shown, they were joined by Assemblymembers Catherine Nolan and Marge Markey, City Council Member Eric Gioia, Community Board 2 Chairman Joseph Conley, Community Board 2 District Manager Debra Markell Kleinert, Lily Gavin, Jimmy Van Bramer, Marie Konecko, Gert McDonald, Rita Manton, Deidre Feerick and Ira Greenberg.

Maspeth Children's Choir Prepares For Concert
     The young voices of the St. Stanislaus Kostka/Transfiguration Children's Choir have been raised in practice for their performance in the annual Christmas concert at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Maspeth on Sunday, Dec. 14. They will be joined by the adult choir. Both are under the direction of Don Competello. The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the church, located at 57-15 61st St.

Youth Choir Delivers At Miraculous Medal In Ridgewood
     The 50-voice Youth Choir of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, consisting of children in the fourth through eighth grades of various schools, performed a Christmas concert under the direction of Dr. Merry A. Naddeo at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Ridgewood last Saturday, Dec. 6. Tree Lighting Kicks Off Christmas In Ridgewood
     With traditional carols and a customary countdown, the Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic Association kicked off the holiday season with their annual Christmas tree lighting at I.S. 93 last Thursday, Dec. 4. Residents in attendance were treated to a performance by the children's choirs of St. Aloysius, St. Matthias and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal churches. A Visit With St. Nicholas
     A Visit With St. Nicholas Visitors to the Vander Ende- Onderdonk House in Ridgewood had an opportunity to meet St. Nicholas last Sunday, Dec. 7. As part of the celebration of the traditional Dutch holiday in preparation for Christmas, visitors enjoyed songs of the season, plus candy canes and cookies, along with hot mulled cider and hot chocolate. In addition, they also crafted holiday cards and ornaments. The Onderdonk House is located at Flushing and Onderdonk avenues, where its Christmas Tree will remain on display for Saturday visits through Jan. 12, 2009.      Students Stuffed Stockings For Soldiers As participants in the Adopt a Soldier Support Effort, students at Glendale's P.S. 91 donated enough items to fill over 25 stockings for U.S. troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, handmade cards were attached to the special gifts.
