DEATH NOTICES

JOSEPH HRYSZKO, 85, of Middle Village, passed away on June 20, 2010. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on March 17, 1925. Retired from the New York City Housing Authority. Proud veteran of the United States Navy and Army. He is survived by his two daughters, five sons, 14 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Funeral arrangements were held June 21, 2010 at Village Chapels. His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

+++ ZIVAN NIKOLIC of Brooklyn died on June 12, 2010 at the age of 74. A native of Zrenjanin, Serbia, he was the beloved husband of Bozana, devoted father of Alexander Nikolic and Daniel Nikolic, and dear brother of Sladana Nikolic; also survived by two grandchildren. Services were officiated by Rev. Fr. Djokan Majstorovic at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by interment in Tomasevacko Cemetery in Zrenjanin, Serbia.

+++ ROSA E. McKINNEY of Glendale died on June 17, 2010 at the age of 43. A native of Brooklyn, she was the devoted mother of Melissa McKinney and dear sister of Harry Carrasquillo, Janet Velasquez, Andre Carrasquillo, Daniel Montez and Daniel Rodriguez. Services were held at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory.

+++ CORNELIA MATEAS of Ridgewood died on June 17, 2010 at the age of 73. A native of Nikolinci, Serbia, she was the beloved wife of Traian Mateas, devoted mother of Sylvia Zaika and Tibi Mateas; also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were officiated by Rev. Fr. Andre Turquoni at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by interment in Nikolinci Cemetery in Nikolinci, Serbia.

+++ JUDY MARIE SMITH died on June 19, 2010 at the age of 87. She was the widow of the late Charles, devoted mother of Robert and Edward, mother-in-law of Debbie and Maribel, dear sister of Frank Colandro and the late Joseph Colandro and Rose Laffey, sister-in-law of Peggy and the late Gerry and Joseph, and fond grandmother of Justin, Donna Marie and Tiffany. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Transfiguration Church followed by interment in All Faiths Cemetery under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth. +++ ROSE PIDALA-CESTARO died on June 15, 2010 at the age of 77. She was the widow of the late Joseph and devoted mother of Frank Cestaro. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Stanislaus Church followed by interment in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

She was the beloved wife of Harold J., devoted mother of Kathleen Listner and Mary Ellen Sampson, mother-in-law of John and Henry, and fond grandmother of Katy and John. +++ STEVEN HIGGINS of Staten Island died on June 18, 2010 at the age of 48. A native of Westerleigh, Staten Island, he was the beloved husband of Lucille, devoted father of Steve, Meghan and Emily, loving son of Patrick and Evelyn, dear brother of Patrick, Scott and Karen Hajdaragic, and dearest friend of Gloria Golden. He was a member of the Laborers International Union for 20 years. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Family Church of Staten Island followed by interment in Resurrection Cemetery under the direction of the Peter J. Geis Funeral Homes, 57-34 Catalpa Avenue, Ridgewood.

+++ JOSEPH P. DIEHL of Middle Village died on June 15, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine Diehl, devoted father of Margaret Martin, April Pridgen, Jeanine and Christopher Paulson, Joseph Diehl Jr., Jacqueline and Jose Padin; also survived by six grandchildren, and a seventh expected in December. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and the Commandant of the Marine Corps League Det#240.
