Didn’t See The Sign On Expressway


Four people were hospitalized after being injured when a car and a van struck an electronic construction sign on the Whitestone Expressway early last Wednesday morning, June 23, FDNY sources said. The crash reportedly occurred at around 1:40 a.m. when a sedan struck the sign near the Northern Boulevard exit in College Point, moving the device from the shoulder to the right traffic lane. Seconds later, FDNY sources stated, a van struck the sign and flipped over. Members of Engine companies 273 and 297 along with Ladder companies 129 and 130, Battalion 52, the 109th Precinct, NYPD Emergency Services Unit 10, Highway Patrol Unit 3 and EMS units responded to the scene. The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
