RANDOLPH S. BALZ died on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the age of 59. He was the beloved son of the late Rudolph and Anna. Cherished brother of the late Roger Balz, loving nephew of Olga Santamaria and dear cousin of Donna Donald and Greg Santamaria. A mass of Christian burial was offered at Ascension Church on Thursday, December 16, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ ADRIENNE BETTS died on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the age of 64. She was the beloved daughter of the late Edwin and Anne, cherished niece of the late Jessie Timko and dear cousin of Allan and Camille Timko and Denis and Sally Timko. +++ GLORIA ESTHER DE LA IGLESIA died on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the age of 97. She was beloved wife of the late Alejandro, loving mother of Gloria E. Natiello and Alejandro de la Iglesia and mother-inlaw of Robert. Cherished grandmother of Christian and Becky and dear aunt of Arturo Ferran. A mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, december 9 followed by interment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ JOHN F. HARTMANN died on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the age of 60. He was the beloved husband of Diann, loving father of Jennifer, Laurie and Kelly. Devoted son of Frank and the late Domenica, dear brother of Jo Ann Ribisi, Frank Hartmann Jr., Dorothea Posillico, Mary Ann Scibelli, Robert Hartmann, Joseph Hartmann and the late Ronald Hartmann. Cherished uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Nicholas Church on Friday, December 17, 2010 followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ SALVATORE MACCHIONE of Ridgewood died on December 8, 2010 at the age of 72. He was a native of Rocca Di Neto, Calabria, Italy. He was the beloved husband of Silvana, devoted father of Louie Macchione and Divida Macchione. A mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Matthias Church followed by interment in St. John’s Cemetery under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood.

+++ MARGARET “PEGGY” QUINN. Peggy entered the kingdom of God on November 20, 2010. Peggy was 66 years young at the time of her passing. She was surrounded by her family and left this world with the love and support of her family by her side. Peggy was retired from NYC EMS and loved her job and the ability to help others. She was a decorated member of EMS. Her greatest love was her family. Peggy leaves behind her brother Jack and his wife Pam Quinn. Peggy also leaves behind her five beautiful children and their spouses; Krista and Anthony Rizzo, Jackie and Harry Gibson, Frank Slinkowski, Maddy and Vlad Regis and Peter “PJ” and Cristina Quinn. She also leaves behind her greatest treasures which were her grandchildren: Harry, Patrick, Leea, Jack, Madison, Peggy, Jordan and Emma. Her funeral was handled by Seneca Chapels of Ridgewood. Peggy’s mass was held at St. Helen’s in Howard Beach on November 23.

+++ MARY EIRING died on Thursday, December 2, 2010. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert, loving sister of Catherine Hoffmann, Joan Webb and the late Margaret Wasniewski and Charles Hoffmann. She was the dear aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial was offered at Our Lade of Hope Church on Monday, December 6, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ ELSA U. SLOVAK died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the age of 69. She was the beloved wife of Thomas, loving mother of Andrew and mother -in-law of Mervat, devoted daughter of Ana Uribe, cherished grandmother of Sarah and Suzanne and dear sister of Esperanza Tobio. A private cremation was held at All Souls Crematory on Friday, December 3. Memorial services are to be held at Papavero Funeral Home on Friday, December, 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entombement of cremated remains will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

He was the beloved husband of Dinorah, loving father of Oscar Milton, Rafael Alonso, Dinorah Guido, Rhina Carroll and George Alonso. He was the cherished grandfather of Wendy, Adriana, Stephanie and Gabriella. Dear brother of Olga Alonso Fernandez and Ester Alonso Lopategi and cherished uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, Decem- ber 4, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle Village, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ HARRY P. MACALUSO died on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor, loving father of Paula Donnelly and the late Charles Macaluso and father-in-law of Kieran, cherished grandfather of Brian and Brendan Donnelly. He was a United States Army Veteran who served during World War II. A mass of Christian burial was offered at Our Lady of Hope Church on Wednesday, December 1, followed by interment at Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ WALTER P. PFREUNDSCHUH, of Glendale, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the age of 64. He was a native of Glendale. He was the beloved companion of Mary Paulson, dear brother of Inge Lepore and Nancy Schmidy. A mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Matthias R.C. +++ ELEANOR G. DENNIS of Ridgewood died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the age of 85. He was a native of Brooklyn. She was the beloved wife of the late Christopher, devoted mother of William T. Dennis and Ellen Corrao. She is survived by three grandchildren. +++ ETELYINA GONZALEZ of Ridgewood died on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the age of 94. She was a native of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Vargas, devoted mother of Elsa V. Paterno, Blanca Gomez, Ada Vargas, Luz Vargas, Hilda Mastrarrigo, Luis Vargas and Edwin Vargas. She was the dear sister of Carmen Gonzalez, Rosa Gonzalez and Emilio Gonzalez. She is survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Martin of Tours followed by interment in St. John’s Cemetery, under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapel, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood.

+++ WILLIAM VAZQUEZ AYALA of Teaneck, N.J. died on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the age of 68. He was a native of Puerto Rico. He was the beloved husband of the late Marina, devoted father of Glenda Vazquez-Paulino, Patricia Rodriguez and Frances Perez. He was the dear brother of Luz Maldonado, Ramon Vazquez and Fendi Vazquez. He is survived by five grandchildren. Services were offered at Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapel followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapel, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood.

+++ JAMES A. MALAMAS of Glendale died on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the age of 61. He was a native of Brooklyn. He was the beloved husband of Karin, devoted father of Nicholas, James II and Glenn. He was the loving son of Evelyn and dear brother of Harry. A mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Pancras followed by interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery, under the drirection of George Werst Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave., Glendale.
