Bushwick Blaze Seriously Injures Resident



A man was critically injured after being overcome by smoke during a one-alarm fire at a Bushwick apartment house last Wednesday morning, Mar. 16, it was reported. Fire Department sources said the blaze broke out at about 6 a.m. in the basement of the three-story structure on Jefferson Street near Bushwick Avenue. Responding to the scene were members of Engine companies 217, 218, 222, 230 and 237; Ladder companies 108, 111, 112 and 124; Squad Co. 252; Rescue 2 and Battalions 35 and 37—under the direction of Division 11—along with the 83rd Precinct and EMS units. The injured male was taken by paramedics to Woodhull Hospital Center for treatment of his injuries, which also included burns. Three hose lines were used by firefighters to bring the fire under control, an FDNY source said.
