Queens Recruits Excel In Training

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Cruz earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of Patricia Cruz of Shore Front Parkway in Rockaway Park and brother of Tina Cruz of Shore Front Parkway in Rockaway Beach.

The airman graduated in 2007 from Christ The King Regional High School in Middle Village.

Air Force Airman Sewak S. Landay graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tx.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the brother of Ashe Rodriguez of Sanlun Lakes Drive in Hampton, Va., and son of Usha Kaur of 135th Place in South Ozone Park.

Landay graduated in 2007 from John Adams High School in Ozone Park.

Marine Corps Pfc. Arbel L. Medina, son of Fatima and Emilio L. Medina of Ridgewood recently graduated from the Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Course.

During the course with Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One, Marine Aviation Support Training Support Group 21, Meridian, Miss., students are taught military correspondence, airfield operations, tactical squadron flight records and reports preparation, and Marine aviation wing and group headquarters command tasks.

Medina is a 2009 graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood and joined the Marine Corps in June 2010.

Army Pvt. Daryel D. Fernandez has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

He is the son of Dario Fernandez of Corona and Ana Valdez of Broadway in Woodside.

Fernandez graduated in 2009 from Middle College High School, Long Island City.

Army Pfc. Tyriq E. Harrington has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

He is the son of Tanya Richardson of Horace Harding Expressway in Corona.

Harrington graduated in 2007 from Forest Hills High School.

Army Pvt. Cristina E. Espinoza has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

She is the sister of Evelyn Espinoza of 116th Street in Richmond Hill, N.Y. and daughter of Esther Teran of 140th Avenue in Jamaica.

Espinoza graduated in 2008 from John Adams High School in Ozone Park.

Army National Guard Pvt. Sebastian Ramos graduated from the Field Artillery Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

As members of the Army’s field artillery team, the course is designed to train soldiers as specialists to operate the advanced field artillery tactical data systems for both cannon and multiple launch rocket systems. The specialists play a critical role in the safe, accurate, and lethal delivery of the field artillery’s various fire support systems used to support infantry and tank units in combat.

Skills training included methods of computing target locations using computers or manual calculations, ammunition handling techniques, and operating and performing maintenance on related equipment, vehicles, generators, and artillery tactical and data systems.

The private is regularly assigned to the 1st Battalion, 78th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Lawton.

He is the son of Ana Ramos of 44th Street in Sunnyside.

Ramos graduated in 2009 from John Bowne High School in Flushing.

Army National Guard Pfc. Alejandro Patino has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Luz Gallon of 59th Street in Maspeth.

Patino graduated in 2006 from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood and received an associate degree in 2009 from LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City.

Army National Guard Pvt. Edwin Olivera has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

He is the son of Ramona Olivera of 62nd Drive in Forest Hills.
