DEATH NOTICES

MADELINE FREY of Branford, Conn., died peacefully at CT Hospice on Tuesday, September 6, at the age of 87. Born in Brooklyn, NY she was the loving wife of 51 years to the late Charles W. Frey. A homemaker and garment worker, she was a native New Yorker and resident of Ridgewood until her move to Connecticut in 2002. Madeline loved to crochet, play bingo, travel, and spend time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: JoAnn and William Loening of Glendale ; Frances and Roy Cascio of Massapequa Park, L.I.; and Charles Frey and Kevin Lembo of Guilford, Conn.; seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, September 9, at St. George Church, Guilford, Conn., followed by private interment will be at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, L.I., under the direction of Guilford Funeral home, 115 Church St, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Madeline’s name to Orchard House Day Center, 421 Shore Dr, Branford, C.T. 06405, where she regularly attended. She was the beloved mother of Susan Mavaro, Michael Miliano and Joan Miliano, mother-in-law of Vin, cherished grandmother of Joey, Angie and Cenzo and dear sister of Jean Dunbar, Roseann Viglione and Nancy Sekula. A private cremation was held on Tuesday, September 6, at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle Village, and a Memorial Mass was offered on Saturday, September 10, at Maria Regina Church Chapel, Seaford, L.I., under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

+++ MICHAEL J. KOSLOW died on Saturday, September 3, at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of Joan T. Koslow, loving father of Denise Casey and Michael Koslow, father-in-law of Kathy and cherished grandfather of Sean, Elizabeth, Michael and Jason. Koslow was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, September 7, at St. Stanislaus Church, Maspeth, followed by interment at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I., under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth. ROBERT “BIB” SMITH of Glendale died on Saturday, September 10, at the age of 69. A native of the U.S., he was the beloved former husband of Theresa and devoted father of Robert, Renee Cravello, Brian and David. He is also survived by nine grandchildren. Services were offered at Glendale Walsh-LaBella and Son Funeral Home, 70-17 Cooper Ave., Glendale, by Rev. Greg Sutterlin, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle Village.

+++ JOAN VENNERI of Ridgewood died on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the age of 73. She was the wife of the late Frank, devoted mother of Michael Frick, Maryanne, Colleen Frick and Frankie and dear sister of Lucille O’Connor. She is also survived by three grandchildren. Services were offered at Hess-Miller Funeral Home, 64-19 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village, followed by interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery.

+++ NYLDA RASPILLER of Maspeth died on Wednesday, September 7, at the age of 91. A native of Isabella, Puerto Rico, she was the beloved wife of Daniel Raspiller and devoted mother of Robert and William Raspiller. She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Ridgewood, followed by interment at Trinity Church Cemetery, under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood.

+++ BARBARA KERKHOVEN of Ridgewood died on Tuesday, September 6, at the age of 63. Anative of New York, she was the beloved wife of Joseph Kerkhoven, devoted mother of Karen Kerkhoven and Michael Kerkhoven and dear sister of Theresa Melhado, William Melhado and Thomas Melhado. She is also survived by one grandchild. Services were offered at Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle Village.

+++ CATHERINE C. ALMSTADT of Ridgewood died on Monday, September 5, at the age of 85. Anative of Brooklyn, she was the wife of the late George, devoted mother of Michael Almstadt and Joseph Almstadt and dear sister of Theresa McGuire. Services were offered at Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, followed by interment at All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village.
