Water Main Mess In Maspeth, H. Bch.

Firefighters and crews with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) rushed to two water main breaks that occurred several hours apart in Maspeth and Howard Beach last Tuesday morning, Oct. 25, according to FDNY sources. Reportedly, the first break occurred at around 8 a.m. Tuesday along 69th Street near 52nd Avenue in Maspeth. Reportedly, the busted main caused water to rush onto the street, though no nearby homes were flooded. On the scene were members of Ladder Co. 136, Battalion 46 and the 104th Precinct, along with workers from the DEP and National Grid. Then at noon, a water pipe ruptured below the Howard Beach intersection of 158th Avenue and 102nd Street. Members of Ladder Co. 173, Squad Co. 270, Battalion 39, the 106th Precinct the DEP and National Grid responded to the scene. Some of the vehicles parked in the area had to be removed by the Fire Department to prevent water damage, it was noted.
