Thousands Stolen From Card Store

(photo: Nicholas Biondo) Authorities are searching for the burglar(s) responsible for cutting a hole through the roof of a Middle Village card store and stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from within sometime between last Saturday night, Dec. 17, and early the following morning.

The owners of the shop located at 79-24 Eliot Ave. reported the breakin to police at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Dec. 18, after discovering the damage to the roof and the disappearance of numerous items.

Based on a preliminary investigation conducted by the 104th Precinct,

-SEE BURGLARY ON PG. 80- it was determined that the burglar(s) entered the premises by creating an entry way through the roof. Once inside, they reportedly removed a quantity of cash, cigarettes, cigars, phone cards, medicine and lottery tickets.

Law enforcement sources estimated that the crook(s) got away with $16,000 in property from the establishment.

No immediate arrests have been made in the case, and the ongoing in- vestigation is being conducted by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad, police said.

The store was closed on Sunday as a result of the incident and the ensuing investigation.
