Symbol Of Hate On A Holy House

Swastika Scrawled On Maspeth Church
by Robert Pozarycki

Maspeth residents and churchgoers were shocked to discover last Wednesday morning, Feb. 29, that a swastika had been carved onto a door of a neighborhood church.

The symbol of hate was found etched into a wooden door at Trinity- St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, located at the corner of 60th Street and 60th Avenue in Maspeth last Wednesday morning.

Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the incident, and the case was subsequently forwarded to the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force for investigation as a possible bias crime.

As of press time Wednesday afternoon, no immediate arrests were made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident that could prove helpful is asked to call the 104th Precinct Detective Squad at 1-718- 386-2735 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS; all calls will be kept confidential.
