Ready For Adventure At Flushing Meadow
Race Through Park On Aug. 11
The City Parks Foundation is currently taking registration for a “Family Adventure Race” Saturday, Aug. 11 at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The parent-child race—held in Queens for the first time—combines basic exercises and sports skills to provide a healthy, one-hour dose of fun for the whole family. The race takes place on a course featuring 12 activity stations. Team members must properly perform the required exercise or task before advancing to the next station and making a final run to the finish line. Activities include a javelin throw, jump rope, basketball free throw, hurdles, and bench push-ups. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age grouping. All participants who finish the race will receive t-shirts and certificates of completion. The race for eight- to 10-year-olds will start at 8:30 a.m.; the race for 11- to 13-year-olds will start at 10 a.m. Registration is limited and on a first-come basis. Register by visiting www.cityparksfoundation.org/sports/ kids-fitness/get-up-and-go-familyadventure race. Each team must include one parent or guardian and up to two children (children must be in the same age category).
