Keeping in the giving spirit of the Christmas season, the 83rd Precinct Community Council applauded officers of the Bushwick-based command and local residents for their contributions to the community at a fund-raiser last Friday night, Dec. 5. As noted, the function at the Hope Gardens Community Center raised funds to purchase toys for children attending the council's annual Christmas party this Saturday, Dec. 13. Among the honorees presented with awards at the event, as shown in the left photo, were Ivan Arvelo of the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council; Jose Diaz, Jr. of C-Town supermarket on Wyckoff Avenue; Virgie Jones of Brooklyn Community Board 4; Isa Muhammad of Kraupner's pharmacy; Sgt. Gary Calhoun of the 83rd Precinct Anti-Crime Unit; P.O. Rosita Williams of the 83rd Precinct Domestic Violence Unit; and A. Lt. Ernesto Andujar and A.P.O. Raymond Melendez of the 83rd Precinct Auxiliary Unit. They are pictured along with Community Council President Barbara Smith, Vice President Ismael Feliciano, Secretary Victoria Fernandez, Treasurer Avellar Hansley and Sergeant-at-arms Vicente Trinidad. In the right photo, the director of the Hope Gardens Community Center, Anita Haynes, presented awards to two members of the 83rd Precinct Anti-Crime Unit, Police Officers Michael Buglione and Kenneth Dwyer, for their help during functions held at the facility.
